How to Move the Default Screenshots Folder

  1. Open File Explorer (Win + E)

    Go to This PC > Pictures in File Explorer.

  2. Open Screenshots Folder Properties

    Right-click the Screenshots folder and select Properties.

  3. Click the "Location" Tab

    Switch to the Location tab at the top of the dialog window.

  4. Click "Move..." and Choose New Path

    Click Move..., pick a new folder on another drive (e.g., D:\MyScreenshots or OneDrive folder), and click Apply > Yes to move existing files.

Troubleshooting Common Screenshot Issues

Fix: Open Windows 11 Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Search for "Snipping Tool", click the 3-dots menu > Advanced options. Scroll down and click Repair first. If the issue persists, click Reset.

Fix: Go to Settings > System > Clipboard. Turn the toggle for Clipboard history to ON. Ensure Sync across your devices is configured if desired.

Fix: Standard Windows desktop screenshot APIs take SDR images. Use Xbox Game Bar (Win + Alt + PrtScn) or calibrate HDR in Windows Display Settings to automatically generate accurate tone-mapped files.
